Visit Lumbini Year 2012 formally launched

Visit Lumbini Year 2012 (VLY-2012) was formally launched along with announcing a formal closure of Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY-2011) in Lumbini amidst a special ceremony on Saturday.

President Ram Baran Yadav formally launched the VLY-2012 by lighting a peace torch in the birthplace of Lord Gautam Buddha.

Inaugurating the ceremony, Yadav said that this campaign would help boost tourism in the country, creating peace along with disseminating the message of peace. He also urged all to follow the path of non-violence and compassion shown by Lord Buddha.

Highlighting that tourist arrivals has increased by 22 percent during the NTY-2011 Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar said that the government has also targeted to increase the tourist arrivals by over half million during the VLY-2012.

The government had decided to host VLY-2012 with an aim of promoting the birthplace of Buddha along with spreading his message of peace in the world.

On the occasion, President Yadav has also formally launched the book of Tourism Vision 2020. The Visit Lumbini Year campaign was a major linkage between NTY-2011 and Tourism Vision 2020 as it serves to sustain the achievement of NTY-2011 and improve livelihoods of the people through tourism as envisioned in Vision 2020.

The government has also aimed to attract at least two million tourists annually by 2020 while one million tourists to Lumbini during 2012.

 

Bheri River Expedition (from 08 to 12 November 2011)

Jajarkot has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. But the Nepal Tourism Board and locals are gearing up to give this hilly district a new brand. With Nepal Tourism Year 2011 just around the corner, Jajarkot is hoping that its dramatic topography, cultural heritage and historic monuments will be able to attract tourists its way. A view of the district from the top of Jajarkot Bajar reveals the mighty Bheri River that bounds the district winding its way around the base of a hill. Once a part of the Baise Rajya, Jajarkot is one of the few places that has a palace from that era that compares to the Malla palaces in Kathmandu. There are also two other smaller palaces well worth a visit. With mountains soaring to 5412 metres above sea level, Jajarkot is also ideal for Himalayan vistas, including Mt. Sisne and Jaljala. Jajarkot is dotted with temples but the one that gets the most attention is the Shiva temple, located in a cave three hours walk from Jajarkot bajar. A colony of bats awaits devotees in the 'bat cave'. Jajarkot also shares the rich mid-western heritage of deuda and tappa dances. From 8th November 2011, NARA ( Nepal Association of Rafting Agent) organize a Bheri River Rafting Expedition trip with more than 30 Expedition teams include media person. Its Support by Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Jajarkot District Development Committee. This trip will be able to attract tourists with noticed as a tourist destination also for belive Jajarkot and other ares will gradually attract Nepali and International tourist whom are seeking new destinations.

 

10th Himalayan White Water Challenge (HWWC)-2011


10th Himalayan White Water Challenge 2012 ( December 2011 ) has been conducted success fully. The campaign targets to attract at least one million tourists by the year 2011. As part of the preparations new and existing infrastructures are under construction to provide the necessary and efficient facilities to the tourists.

Nepal Tourism Year begins
 
Marking the beginning Nepal Tourism Year, Nepal Tourism Board amidst a function on January 1 welcomed tourists at Tribhuvan International Airport.
NTB along with government officials and representatives of different travel trade associations gifted tourists with white scarf and a post-card of Mt Everest undersigned by Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Sarat Singh Bhandari.
The government had inaugurated new gate at TIA along with a sterile zone  on the eve of the campaign on December 31.  The official inauguration of NTY 2011 is scheduled for January 14 at Dasharath Stadium in the capital. With the beginning of Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011, tourism promotional activities have begun at major tourist destinations outside the capital.

President Ram Baran Yadav formally inaugurated Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011 campaign amid a ceremony held at Dasharath Stadium on 14 January. The formal launching ceremony was attended by UNWTO Secretary General Taleb Rifai and tourism ministers from SAARC member countries
among other dignitaries.
Some 20,000 spectators watched air show by paramotors and ultra-light  aircraft and a colorful march past that included cultural shows by different indigenous groups, different associations and musical band by Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police. Office-bearers and staffers of Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) along with trekking workers also participated in the march past.Senior leaders of all the political parties were present in the formal launching ceremony to express their solidarity to the year-long campaign.
The banners with slogan like ‘Together for tourism, tourism for prosperity, prosperity for stability’ were splashed across the city. The country is organizing the campaign with the objective of welcoming one million visitors, divert tourists to new areas, increase tourists' length of stay and raise per capita expenditure of tourists.

Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal said that campaign was aimed at giving a message to outside world that Nepal was a safe and attractive destination to visit. “Leaving behind a decade long conflict, we have crossed four years of the peace process. For stable peace, we now need a strong economy which can be achieved through tourism,” he said. He also said the government was planning to double the number of tourist arrivals, increase their average stay from 10 to 15 days and also increase their average expenditure.
NTY Main Organizing Committee officially unveiled four different tourism products -- The Great Himalayan Trail (GHT), Might East, Wild West Triangle and Tarai Tourism. For meeting that target, private sector players have appealed to the political parties to adhere strictly to their commitment to making 2011 free from strikes and other activities that cause inconveniences to tourists.
Asian Tourism Ministers´ Conclave was organized later in the evening. Speaking on the occasion, ministers from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka said they were also planning to celebrate 2011 as Tourism Year in their respective countries also.

 Arrivals via land up 18 pc in 2010
 
The total number of international tourists entering the country via land increased by 18 percent to 153,757 in 2010. The figure, however, does not include arrivals of Indian tourists. The number, however, is lower than arrival figures of 2007 when a total of 165,992. A total of 130,634 foreign tourists had entered the country via land route in 2009.
Total arrivals in 2010 touched all time high of 600,000 in 2010. The country had received a total of 448,769 tourists via air route during the air.
The highest number of arrivals via land routes in 2010 was from Sri Lanka, followed by Thailand, China, South Korea, the US, and United Kingdom. A total of 44,080 Sri Lankan tourists visited Nepal via land routes last year.
